So What the Heck is Health Coaching?



I like to think of health coaching as the missing link. We start with doctors; they give us a diagnosis, hand us a prescription, and send us home. Then we go home and Dr. google everything, going down a rabbit hole of worst case scenarios, and information overload. Then we are so overwhelmed that we don't even know what to do next. We may forget what the doctor said, we may choose not to take the medication, or we just give up on doing anything else for our health because we feel doomed.

Additionally, doctors address the medical piece of the puzzle. They aren't necessarily trained to look at you from a holistic perspective, taking in to account your nutrition, sleep, stress, relationships, etc.


So can you start to see the missing link? Health coaches! Health coaching fills the gap between what happens after the doctors office and your future best self.


The Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine defines coaching as, “a client-centered, relational approach to working with individuals collaboratively to address the health and wellbeing of the whole person."


"It acknowledges the interdependent roles of mind, body and spirit, and the innate healing capacity within each person, with an emphasis on self-care."


"An integrative health or wellness coach forms a partnership with individuals or groups to empower and support them in achieving their personal goals related to optimal health and wellness.”


Coaching addresses both the WHAT and the HOW. It’s about learning the right tools for you AND learning how to practically apply them to your life.


Integrative health coaching bridges the gap between not knowing what to do to feel better, or what we know we should probably be doing for our wellbeing, with actually doing it AND STICKING TO IT!
